Lasius emarginatus is a species enjoying low moisture. It loves heat and develops quickly at a temperature of 25 ° C during the day, with a drop of 4 or 5 ° C at night. If the feed contains sufficient water, the nest may only contain moist air, without the ants having direct contact with the water in the tank, for example. Can live in all our models of nests, this species will appreciate that the humidification is moderate, without being totally absent. The so-called "constructible or creusable" nests that allow the ants to build their own galleries will bring a lot of satisfaction. Indeed the Lasius in general are workers and bricks hors pairs!
Protein and sweetened liquids (sweetened milk), insects and pellets will be sufficient for adequate food. Every 3 months, a mineral and vitamin intake will be necessary to avoid the deficiencies that can be found in many ants in captivity.
It is a discrete species that is very quickly aggressive and active after a few weeks, the population can be multiplied by 4 in less than 8 weeks under good conditions.
